Counter Balance Valve

Counterbalance valves or load-holding valves are used in hydraulic systems which work with a suspended or overriding load. These are designed to generate back-pressure at the output line of the actuator to maintain control over the load. A counter balance valve has three important functions: load holding, high-speed maneuvering of loads, and load control.

Counterbalance valves can be used for clamping applications to prevent negative loads from falling when any kind of failure occurs. A counterbalance circuit comes with a pilot piston for lowering the relief settings, a check valve for free fluid flow, and a relief valve for the reverse flow of the fluid.

Some of the benefits of using a counter balance valve are as follows:

  1. It offers a significant amount of stability.
  2. It prevents uncontrolled or unintended movement subjected to the load.
  3. It helps handle the induced pressure and protect the machinery from potential damage.
  4. It is suitable for stable and safe load handling.
  5. It helps to stabilize the system from experiencing variable or high back-pressures.
  6. In the case of hydraulic hose failure, it helps to control the load speed.
